Why should I enter?
The bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year Awards, supported by Express Newspapers, are the longest-standing awards, having run for 24 years, with the main Franchisor of the Year Award recognised as the highest accolade in the franchising industry. Over the years, award winners have benefited greatly from being able to say they are the best in their field. Coupled with the national publicity that accompanies the awards programme, the scope for recognition, not just from industry peers and your franchisees but also from the wider public arena, is outstanding.
The awards are your opportunity to stand out from the crowd and highlight what you have achieved to make your franchise business what it is.
Which categories can I enter?
The HSBC Franchisee Support Award and the Express Newspapers Brand Builder Award are both open to Full and Associate members and Provisionally Listed Companies. The bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year Award is only open to Full members.
I’ve only been franchising a short time. Can I enter?
The awards are open to both well-established and newer franchisors. The only restriction to entry is that the main Franchisor of the Year Award is only open to Full members of the bfa. All companies of all stages of franchise development are welcome and are encouraged to enter. Judging is impartial and is based on what you have achieved, no matter what the size of your network or your brand.
How do I submit our entry?
All entries must be submitted by completing an entry form and supplying the required supporting information. All entries must be sent by post to the bfa offices no later than Friday 5th April to be considered for the awards. Entry forms will be sent to members by post but can also be downloaded by clicking here.
What financial information do we have to include with our entry?
All entries should include audited accounts for the last financial year, including profit and loss and a balance sheet. If your accounts are more than 12 months old, then up to date management accounts, signed by your accountant, should also be submitted.
For the Franchisor of the Year Award, which is only open to Full Members, we also ask entrants to provide the audited accounts for two of their franchisees.
I don’t have audited accounts. Can I submit management accounts instead?
We can accept management accounts providing they are the most recent ones and are signed by your accountant.
When will the judging take place?
If successfully selected as a finalist, you will be invited to attend an interview with the judging panel on either Monday 20th May or Tuesday 21st May. We cannot confirm which of the two dates you will be asked to attend so please leave both available.
What happens if we can’t attend the judging?
All finalists are required to attend their judging interview on one of the above dates so we ask that you make sure representatives of your company are available on both days before you submit your entry.
Where will the judging take place?
The judging will take place in London. Full details will be sent to you if you are selected as a finalist.
Can we change the date or time of our judging interview?
Because of the nature of the judging and the number of interviews conducted over the two days it will not be possible for finalists to change the date or time of their interview. All entrants must make sure they are available for both days of the judging as we are unable to say in advance which award categories will be judged on which day.
How many people can attend the judging interview?
Up to three representatives of a finalist company may attend the judging.
Who is on the judging panel?
The judging panel is made up of Brian Smart, bfa Director General; Cathryn Hayes, Head of Franchising, HSBC and Sean Hammond, Advertising Group Head, Express Newspapers. There will also be two guest judges who are currently being confirmed.
What happens at the judging?
The entire judging interview lasts 30 minutes and is split into a presentation by the finalist company (15 minutes) and a Q&A with the panel of judges (15 minutes). After the interview, finalists have their photo taken with the judges and on their own, with the pictures being used for publicity both in the run up to and after the announcement of the winners.
When will the winners be announced?
All winners will be announced at the awards dinner on 4th July at the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) in London. No indication of winners will be given prior to this date.
What happens on the night?
The awards dinner is a black tie event. The evening will start with a drinks reception, followed by dinner and then the awards ceremony. All finalists will be invited up on stage to collect their official finalist certificate. Winners will then be announced and invited up on stage to collect their award.
How many winners are there?
There is one overall winner for both the HSBC Franchisee Support Award and the Express Newspapers Brand Builder Award. For the bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year Award, we will announce Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.
How much are the tickets for the awards dinner?
Individual tickets are £98.50 + VAT per person or you can buy a table of 10 for the price of 8 (£788 + VAT). Alternatively, if a you are attending the Annual Conference and you have booked a full conference package, entrance to the awards dinner is included as part of your package.
If our company is not selected as a finalist, can I get feedback on why?
The judging panel’s decision is final and binding and, unfortunately, we are unable to provide feedback on why a company was not successful. To give individual feedback on each and every entry that does not make it through would be an extremely complex and lengthy process and, for this reason, we are unable to provide this information.
