Franchises for sale

The franchise industry has grown hugely in the past 30 years. There are now more than 900 different companies which use franchising as a business growth model across the UK and this represent approximately 37,000 franchisees (those running the individual franchise businesses).

These businesses range from smaller home run franchises through to large retail outlets or hotels with major international brands. Therefore there are now a vast range of franchises for sale.

Some of the franchises for sale are new territories, which means that you are starting a brand new franchise outlet/unit. This is where a franchise network is expanding into new areas.

Other franchises for sale are resales. These are existing franchise businesses, which you would be taking on from a previous franchise owner. In most cases this will be the result of the previous owner having deicide to retire or sell the business to realise their investment or move onto new ventures. This can mean the cost of the franchise can be significantly higher than a new site, but with business and revenue from day one.
However, there are cases where you have the opportunity to take on a previously failing or struggling franchise. This may be a much lower start-up cost and may offer a very good opportunity to turn the business around and gain from the increased value.
When looking at franchises for sale there are a number of checks that you should go through to make sure that you are joining a proper business format franchise and that you are protecting yourself against any future problems.

Read through the advice on franchising section on this website and we also strongly recommend that you consider attending one of the bfa’s educational franchise seminars, which provide an objective and realistic view of what you really need to know about franchising.

See the bfa member list for a full list of franchises for sale that have passed strict accreditation checks on their businesses.
