 Prime Minister's Question Time

Dan Archer,
Head of Marketing,
bfa

We have all watched it happen; politicians are actually pretty good at this. The leader of the opposition asks the Prime Minister about the fact that "the sky is not as blue as it was 3 years ago, under the control of the current government". This is true, both the questioner and the answerer know that it is true, but the answer that the PM gives is actually more of a statement. "May I remind the honourable gentleman that the sky was a lot less blue under the last government." And the questioning moves on!
The point of this exercise? Questioning is really important but the most important thing is getting answers. For example when you are preparing a list of standard questions to ask the franchisors that you are considering going into business with, you should remember that they will have answered similar questions many times before.

 It's a Question of Match-making…

Johnny Sellyn‚
Managing Director‚
whichfranchise

Franchisors are very clear in what kind of people they are looking for, and therefore you should also be clear in your mind which opportunities match your needs and skills.
It's a question of matching the skills and type of experience required to run a franchise with what you like doing, and are good at. Not surprisingly, what we like doing tends to be what were best at.

 Becoming a Master Franchisee

Brian
Duckett

When you consider that the Master Franchise fee for a whole country for a service-based franchise is often less than the cost of setting up a single unit outlet for some food service or premises-based retail franchises, one can see why more people are thinking "Why should I just become a franchisee when I could be a Master?"
Of course, the skills required of a Master are very different, but for someone who is of the mindset of a typical franchisee, i.e. not too entrepreneurial and looking to be part of a proven system with established support structures, master franchising can offer far greater potential than simply running a single franchised outlet.

Around the World with Signs Express

Signs Express

Signs Express recently provided sponsorship graphics to one of the entrants of this year's infamous Plymouth-Dakar challenge. Dubbed as the "Ultimate Banger Challenge" the event is now in its 5th year. Teams from across the country take part with the aim of getting from Plymouth to Dakar in a vehicle worth under £100 and equipped for a mere £15.

Dominic Russell-Price and Chris Blackburn set off on the 16th December for the trip of a lifetime in a 600cc 1988 Trabant. The intrepid couple were aiming to raise money for Heely City Farm and also the Seeds for Africa charity.

Signs Express ( Sheffield ) owners, Steve & Carol Morris were excited to support the event by providing graphics for the Trabant free of charge. "It's great to be involved in such a different project. We're specialists when it comes to vehicle graphics but this is definitely one of the more unique vehicles we've supplied graphics for!" said Steve Morris.

The team arrived at their destination on 9th January where their trusty Trabant was auctioned off to help raise money for local Gambian charities.

Sliderobes
flagship store
Belfast

Fitted wardrobe franchise, Sliderobes, has invested more than £30,000 in refurbishing its spacious flagship showroom on the outskirts of Belfast .

The 2,000 sq ft showroom, one of Sliderobes' largest, has also been the head office of the franchise for more than 20 years. According to Slidesrobes spokesman, Hugh Hayes, The Boucher Crescent showroom is in a popular and prime retail location, making it an ideal home for their showroom.

A major part of the new layout features the company's contemporary Stratta range, launched only a few months ago. This is a lightweight minimalist interior, based on aluminium construction, which offers the same flexibility as more established Sliderobes interiors, yet can be combined with hanging spaces, racks, shelves and drawers.

Sliderobes showrooms have an emphasis on providing a calm and relaxed environment. In Belfast , Sliderobes has created a comfortable seating area where customers can relax with a coffee.
