What to expect at a franchise exhibition

Franchise exhibitions in the UK can differ dramatically in what you see and the advice that you are given. This includes the size of the shows, which can range from small local franchise exhibitions to larger national exhibitions.

The following covers what you would expect to see at one of the few bfa accredited shows. These shows are delivered with only bfa members and specially accredited companies being able to exhibit. This means that you are only dealing with proper franchise businesses.

The franchisors

Each franchise show will host a selection of franchise brands looking to recruit new franchisees. Some smaller shows may have 40-50 companies exhibiting, whereas some larger shows may have over 150. Even if there is only one brand you are interested in, it is worth speaking with other franchise brands to give you a much more rounded view of the industry.

The experts

Alongside the franchise brands will be a number of professional advisors, such as consultants, banks, accountants and solicitors, who will all be experts in franchising advice. This is extremely useful as it means you can pick up a few gems of information at no cost, as well as make new contacts under one roof.

Franchisees

Some franchisors will have franchisees on their stands to give you a personal view of franchising and the realities of running your own business. This can be extremely useful, but it is also worth speaking to other franchisees in their network.

Seminars

There are usually two or three different seminar theatres at the exhibitions covering many different case studies, insights and presentations.

The main theatre is run by the bfa to give very upfront objective advice for those looking to join a franchise and those looking to franchise their business. These are usually about an hour long, free of charge and with three guest speakers to cover all core angles. Despite these being hugely valuable, you will want to go to a much more in depth franchise seminar if you choose to follow this up further.

The bfa

The bfa will always have a prominent stand to answer questions and help direct you to the right advice and seminars. We also carry information about our full day seminars and can help guide you in what may be your next franchising steps.

Buying!

You shouldn’t sign anything on the day. Find out as much as you can and agree to meet again if the franchise is of interest - but do not commit to anything there at the exhibition. You will want time to reflect and consider your options.

Tickets

You can register for free bfa show tickets via the tickets tab on the right hand side of this website.
