Case Study - Esmond White

EsmondEsmond White started his Minster Cleaning Services franchise in August 1996; today, annual turnover at the Kent branch is over £1million and Esmond has now recruited a general manger to help with the day-to-day running of his highly successful business.

When he left the army aged 39, Esmond made use of his people management abilities together with his degree in civil engineering to secure a job with a large engineering company. After ten years, and having risen to the position of managing director, he realised that the only way to have complete control over his destiny was to be running a company of his own which he could build for the future security of himself and his family.

Esmond identified franchising as offering the fastest and most reliable way forward and recognised that a management franchise would make the best use of his skills.  He wanted a low-tech business that wouldn’t go out of fashion, ideally a people business with excellent opportunities for growth.

Esmond’s achievements were recognised when he was named as Minster’s Franchisee of the Year for 2009 – an award that is based on performance criteria including sales, new business acquisition and customer retention – after being runner-up for the accolade in 2004, 2005 and 2008. He has managed to maintain his £1million turnover through what may turn out to be the UK’s worst ever recession.

Esmond’s enthusiasm and zest for life shows no sign of abating; the massive UK market for office cleaning and a large territory – from Dartford in the North to Folkestone in the south, and from Sevenoaks as far east as Margate, including the major towns of Gillingham and Maidstone – will give him more than enough expansion potential to keep him busy.
