Case Study - Jay Tomkins
Snap-on Tools franchisee Jay Tomkins’ first year has been so successful that he has won a luxury break in Barcelona with his wife – along with Snap-on’s other top 40 performers of 2002.
Jay joined Snap-on 18 months ago with limited capital but has managed to buy his business in record time through sheer hard work. Turnover in his first full year exceeded £260,000 – more than two-and-a-half times the average for mobile franchises, according to the authoritative NatWest/bfa survey.
Jay won his place for selling over £123,000 of credit business – an all-time company record. He said “The Snap-on finance scheme means I can offer my customers some of the best deals in the marketplace, and Snap-on underwrite the whole thing. I get instant profit and the customer gets the convenience of easy, weekly payments.”
So, is Jay looking forward to swapping his territory in St Austell, Cornwall, for the bright lights of Barcelona?
“Absolutely. The great thing about it is that we all get to take our wives as well as I couldn’t have set up my business without Anne’s support.”
So what does 2003 have in store for Jay? “I’m thinking about converting to Snap-on’s management franchise later this year and putting some more vans on the road. But first I want to win the next sales contest – the prize is racing the Le Mans Jaguar. That’ll make a change from my Snap-on truck.”
