Case Study - Matt Carson
Snap-on Tools franchisee Matt Carson was a 22 year old motorcycle mechanic when injury forced him to rethink his career. “After smashing my hand, working on bikes became very difficult and riding them was impossible. I had always wanted to start my own bike business eventually, but I thought that was the end of that.”
His training in the motor trade meant that he was well aware of Snap-on Tools. “My local Dealer suggested I’d be good at it, but I never thought they would take on someone of my age, given that I didn’t have much money and had just had a major operation”.
Matt did join Snap-on – as a trainee – and spent his first year running a company-owned outlet to build up the capital to purchase his business.
Now Matt is celebrating his first year as a full Snap-on franchisee by putting his second truck on the road – and employing his father, Theo, to drive it. “After ten years of 18-hour days running my own mini-market, I was ready for a change.” says Theo, “My son built a £200,000 Snap-on business in less than a year and when he asked me to join him, I jumped at the chance. I sold my own business in December, and I’ve just completed my first week at Snap-on’s National Training School. I can’t wait to get out there.”
