Granite Transformations secures national TV coverage 19/07/2012 10:16

GT fitter Gareth Florian with presenter Catherine Gee on 60 Minute MakeoverGranite Transformations continues to be amongst the kitchen worktops of choice for TV home makeover shows, appearing most recently on ITV1’s ’60 Minute Makeover’ and Channel 4’s ‘You Deserve This House’.

Of course, this gives the franchise the chance to showcase its ‘top that fits on top’ concept on national television and secure some useful brand exposure; but equally, there is an opportunity to contribute time and material to some deserving people, in these instances a single mother battling leukaemia and a community-based life coach working with vulnerable young people.

In the case of '60 Minute Makeover', ITV1’s daily interior design series, the surprise makeover certainly brought smiles to the faces of single mother Cheryl and her family, after a number of tough years coping with illness and bringing up two teenagers. Presented by Catherine Gee and featuring top interior designer John Amabile, the show brought about new looks for the living room, bedroom and kitchen of Cheryl’s home in Romford, Essex. Having seen the result, series producer James Kane even bought a Granite Transformations worktop for his own kitchen!

Channel 4’s new daytime show 'You Deserve This House', where the homes of local community heroes get a secret makeover, is presented by Amanda Lamb and Granite Transformations has now featured twice. In its first show, Lincoln Beckford, who works with vulnerable young people, had his home in Watford transformed by friends and professional tradesmen, ‘as a way of saying thank you’. Lincoln’s plain and cluttered kitchen was ‘given a lift’ by painting the walls and cupboard doors and installing Granite Transformations’ top-selling Black Star worktop material, selected by the show’s designer, Joe McCann.

The company’s highly-trained head office fitters also got to hone their planning and installation skills working against the clock, especially when ’60 Minute Makeover’ means exactly that!

“It’s quite challenging time-wise, but really rewarding being involved in these shows, because the outcomes are often very heartwarming,” says chief operating officer Danny Hanlon. “To see someone’s face really light up when they’ve had a surprise kitchen, lounge or bedroom makeover shows how humble home improvements can really uplift people’s spirits.”
