Certax Franchisee is Midlands’ Top Business Person
CerTax Franchisee David Nicoll FFA has been named Midlands Business Person of the Year for 2009.
He received the award in the presence of Digby, Lord Jones of Birmingham Kt at a gala ceremony on 30 January 2009 at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole hotel. Lord Jones, the former Director General of the CBI and Minister of State for Trade and Investment, was himself honoured at the ceremony for his lifetime contribution to business in the Midlands.
Launched in 1999, CerTax Accounting currently has approximately 100 franchisees across the UK, serving the needs of local business communities. David joined the franchise in 2006, when he launched his business in Rugby and West Northamptonshire.
He has expanded the business aggressively since then and last year its turnover rose by 178 per cent, following impressive growth in the previous two years. It now has nine members of staff. The firm is currently on course to achieve growth of 60 per cent this year. It offers fixed pricing and unlimited telephone support to its clients and alongside its regular work has developed a strong niche offering in property taxation matters.
David, who was born and grew up in Hong Kong where his father was in the Royal Hong Kong Police, began his career in accountancy, then switched into commerce and marketing for a number of years, and frequently brings this experience to bear with his client base. He even had a brief spell as a child actor in the former colony.
He said: "Naturally, I am delighted to have won this award. It is a great achievement and a tribute to the team behind me at CerTax Accounting and shows just what can be done by taking an innovative approach to this business"
Not one to let success go to his head, David was back in the office first thing on Saturday 31 January making sure that any clients who had left their tax returns to the very last minute could still access his help
