PRESS RELEASE 30TH NOVEMBER 2006

Approach Franchising with Confidence

Following the phenomenal success of the Franchise London day during National Franchise Week, East London Small Business Centre, Whichfranchise.com, CREATE and British Franchise Association, supported by the London Development Agency, will be joining forces once again to bring a series of half day workshops on 6th, 7th and 8th December to local residents interested in starting their own franchise.

“The Discover Franchising day, marking National Franchise Week, saw delegate numbers exceed 100,” said Dan Archer, Head of Marketing at the British Franchise Association. “With such a high level of interest from local residents, it is important that we continue to encourage these enterprising individuals to take up business to stimulate and contribute to a sustainable enterprise in the capital. The half-day workshop will play an important part in their journey towards self employment as it provides in-depth information and guidance on franchising.”

The decision to consider franchising as a route to running a business is an important one. There are many considerations and many different sources of information; the difficulty is knowing where to start.

The British Franchise Association has spent 29 years as the voice of Franchising in the UK and part of their work is involved with ensuring that people investigating Franchising spend as much time as they need learning about the industry, the concept and evaluating their personal suitability for franchising.

Starting a business through franchising will involve a long term commitment and a sizeable investment so it is important that new franchisees go into the process with their eyes open and spend the time to ensure that the investment decision is the right one.

Attending a free half-day workshop is an ideal way to learn more about the sector.

Course content

  • What is a franchise?
  • Is franchising right for you?
  • Assessing the Franchise
  • The Franchise Relationship – what is it like to be a franchisee?
  • Case studies.

The workshops will be taking place on:

7th December at Business Enterprise Centre, Shepherds Bush
8th December at the East London Small Business Centre, E1

To book a place, visit www.whichfranchise.com or call 0141 204 0050.

The half-day workshops are sponsored by the London Development Agency and delivered by the British Franchise Association and CREATE. The workshops are part of a pilot franchise programme to encourage franchising as a route for business start-up across London. The project will test and develop the main elements and actions for a successful franchise programme including the appropriate support infrastructure necessary to encourage franchising as a route for business start-up across London. The pilot project has a geographical focus targeting support on specific City Growth areas in London. The objective is to develop a coherent package of support for franchising in London that brings together both private sector and public sector agencies to encourage and produce real investment through start-up of franchise businesses in key areas of economic deprivation. The intention is to develop a successful model of support to be embedded within the new business start-up arrangements, specifically from 2007/08.
