Keynote speakers:
Ken Cairnduff
In 1979 Ken Cairnduff started “Razzle Dazzle” selling fashion jewellery and accessories which was an instant success.
Razzle Dazzle grew and metamorphosised into Internacionale over a period of years. Inter was a young fashion clothing retailer, still with a strong emphasis on jewellery and accessories. In the late 80’s Ken added Au Naturale as “concessions” selling gimmick gifts in the bigger Inter stores.
The Au Naturale brand has grew rapidly over the following 10 years and developed into a retail park based home interiors chain with a twist. It outgrew its Inter parent fascia and was very successful.
The business of 140 shops was sold in September 2006 to a management buy-out backed by Barclays and VC and since selling Ken has continued his interest in property development in a much bigger way. He currently owns a retail park in Newcastle, Rutherglen Shopping Centre in Glasgow and has just bought Kyle Centre Ayr for £37m at the beginning of this year.
Andy Hirst
Andy Hirst joined Domino’s Pizza as Franchise Development Manager in June 2004, having spent over 20 years working for some of the biggest names in the Franchised Restaurant Industry, including Wimpy, McDonalds, KFC and Pizza Hut.
Dominos currently have over 460 stores in the U.K. and are opening new sites at the rate of 50 per year. Last year there were 3500 enquiries, over 300 applications received and a total of 30 new franchisees joining the Dominos system. The recruitment and selection of these franchisees, along with assisting current franchisees meet their expansion goals, provides Andy with plenty of challenges.
Andy worked in the burger business in the late eighties and early nineties during a period of rapid growth in the U.K. The pizza delivery market is currently experiencing a very similar phase of rapid expansion, and Dominos are well positioned to capitalise on this trend. As the company enjoys continued sales growth and record store openings it makes Dominos a vibrant and exciting place to work.
