A day in the life of a Business Development Manager

A day in the life of a Business Development Manager

Business Development Managers (BDM) are at the heart of what One Stop does. They provide one of One Stop’s most popular services for its franchisees. All franchisees have their own dedicated BDM who themselves come from a retail background, so they understand franchisees’ challenges and ambitions.

So, what does the life of a BDM look like?

Collectively across the Head Office and field teams, says One Stop, their BDMs have thousands of years’ worth of retailing experience for franchisees to tap into. This extensive level of expertise plays a crucial part in the difference our BDMs make to a franchisee’s business.

A major part of being a BDM is travelling around to stores in their local area. BDMs make four-weekly visits, usually more frequent, and audit the store, helping each franchisee to ensure they are a safe and legal retailer. They support the franchisee’s business and discuss ideas to take them to the next level.

Rathee Vinayagmoorthy who is a multi-store franchisee said: “I am more than happy with the One Stop proposition and service. When I opened my store at Chiltern Avenue, my BDM and I discussed my what I wanted and they added it to the floor plan and we worked together to achieve my vision. It was a very simple process.”

Another part of BDM’s Day can be working on floor plans with them before the store has opened its doors. There is so much work that goes into a new store, BDMs are there from the very beginning. They are assigned to potential franchisees right from the very start of the application process and partner with the new retailer throughout their One Stop journey.

Baljit Lalli from Cambuslang said: “The transformation of my business has been heavily due to the support that One Stop have provided. My BDM is involved with the development of my business, always showing me ways to capitalise on space and range. This takes a load off me and means I have more time to spend with my family.”

John Miller, Head of Franchise at One Stop said: “The dedicated support our franchisee receive from our BDMS is something that many of franchisee say sets us apart from our competitor and we at One Stop take great pride in providing”

BDMs at One Stop work to build great partnerships with franchisees, helping them to manage their stores successfully and profitably within their communities.

“My Business Development Manager is always on hand to sort out any issues and help things run smoothly. My staff can contact him for support, which gives me more time to overlook the business. One of the best things a Business Development Manager can help with is going through the profit and loss report, showing where we can increase profit and sales each month.” –Sunder Sandher, Leamington Spa
