Barking Mad launch second standalone franchise in buoyant dog care market

Award-winning national pet care franchise Barking Mad, which offers a luxury alternative to kennels for dog owners across the UK, has launched a second franchise business operating under its well-established parent brand.

Barking Mad Professional Mobile Dog Grooming becomes founder Lee Dancy’s second venture to offer franchise opportunities in the lucrative and buoyant dog care industry. It has recently become the first standalone dog washing and grooming business to achieve bfa membership, passing accreditation as a Provisionally Listed Company.

The launch comes in the midst of a busy year for the Barking Mad team, which took home the HSBC Franchisee Support award at the 2013 bfa HSBC Franchisor of the Year Awards in July. Existing Barking Mad franchisees will work alongside new grooming franchisees under the parent Barking Mad Dog Care brand.

Managing director Lee Dancy said: “Over the last 13 years we have gained a wealth of experience within the pet industry and franchising sector. Our national operations manager Lisa Morton adds 13 years of hands-on mobile grooming experience to a system that represents an excellent template for franchising. It’s the perfect fit where we know we can offer a proven professional business model in a profitable sector.”

Barking Mad are confident that mobile grooming by qualified dog stylists with innovative products and services, combined with the added convenience of coming to the customer, will explode across the UK in coming years. Lee added: “We frequently receive requests for a professional and reliable service and our experience shows that a well-run franchise can expect to be booked up months in advance with repeat business gained by local marketing, reputation and referral.”

Lisa Morton said: “Individuals with a passion for dogs who see the opportunity that there is to work in the grooming sector don’t necessarily have all the skills and understanding they need to make it work. Barking Mad offers award-winning support and years of business and grooming experience in one turnkey operation.

“The existing Barking Mad dog care network will complement our grooming franchises well as we will have similar customers, many of whom will know and trust the Barking Mad brand.”

The company will ensure all groomers sign up to become City & Guilds qualified to stand out in a currently unregulated marketplace. It is already a member of the British Dog Groomer’s Association and Barking Mad Ltd is also a member of the Pet Services Association, both divisions of the Pet Industry Federation.

The first Barking Mad Professional Mobile Grooming franchise is expected to begin trading in late 2013 or early 2014.
