You need to be considering a franchise in today’s world

With over 12 years of experience in helping individuals explore their options and choose the right career move, Ed Purnell (Franchise Recruitment Manager – EMEA) from Expense Reduction Analysts shares his thoughts on why you should consider investing in a franchise right now.

“There are a lot of external forces impacting careers in general right now and as an employee in today’s world, I believe you have even less control over what your future may look like.

During times of recession, most companies look for ways to become more efficient to help their business recover and rebuild. If a company has the expertise, they can do this through process improvements and cost optimisation, however, this is not always achievable for every business.

Unfortunately, this means that being made redundant is a real possibility for staff, with thousands of people being let go without much warning. I have personally seen the Oil & Gas industry go through a period of recession where, what felt like every day, there was a new story of 10,000+ redundancies happening within individual organisations.

This influx of unemployment means that the job market is then flooded with applicants allowing employers to hold all the cards, especially when negotiating salaries and deciding who to bring into their organisation.

However, it’s not all bad news. I have discovered that the franchising sector offers a great opportunity to shape your own future, allowing individuals to overcome the challenges posed by the current job market.

There’s an unbelievable array of exciting, cutting edge and traditional brands to invest in, more than I could have imagined! I really think that there is a vast amount of attractive options for anyone looking to take back control of their career, enjoy a better work/life balance, earn more for themselves or embark on a new challenge.

I also believe that buying into a franchise has some great benefits against starting your own business, especially in today’s world.

I have listed my top 3 below:

1. You can control your future and reduce your risk against starting your own business.

You cannot remove all risk, but your chances of success are greatly improved.

2. You have the support from others who have started their own business.

Both mentally and operationally, this is a massive benefit and can stop you from making critical mistakes.

3. It is easier to obtain financing from banks.

Banks trust in proven business models and are more likely to offer favourable rates to individuals investing in proven franchise.

There’s also free support and impartial advice available from various sources in the industry, including the British Franchise Association . They have various forums and events that help individuals get the most out of the franchising relationship.

So, while you are searching for your next career opportunity why only consider employment? Especially during these challenging times, you should also be considering a franchise as well.”
