In September 2004 Lisa opened her first store, became franchisee of Domino’s Pizza in Kilmarnock, and her business has grown steadily since. Lisa now has 13 stores in Scotland, including four busy stores in Glasgow.
Lisa’s remarkable success to date has been acknowledged with honours including Great British Franchisee of the Year Awards from the British Franchise Association in 2021 and 2008. Aged 34 Lisa was awarded a Gold Franny, an accolade presented to Domino’s top franchisees worldwide. This prestigious award saw her beating off stiff competition from established Domino’s franchisees in over 65 countries.
Main motivations for running her franchise: Lisa is an ambitious person who wanted to have and keep expanding a successful business. Her drive comes from a background in gymnastics, where she was number one in Scotland for five years and competed in the UK Championships and all over Europe. She says: “This winning mentality and desire to succeed at such a young age was what set me off, it’s also tough not only being a woman in business but striving to achieve success in a very competitive market.
“Ultimately, I want to be able to provide a nice lifestyle for us and our family and be able to enjoy life to the full by challenging myself and continually trying new things. Initially, having one store was a huge challenge but learning to grow a group and manage area managers and store managers has been our next big step.”
Lisa firmly believes in the Domino’s product and the brand, and the wealth of fantastic franchisees who draw on each other regularly, share ideas and work together to develop such a fantastic brand in the UK and worldwide.
Having worked in each role at Domino’s herself, Lisa has an exceptional understanding of the jobs and how every team member has an impact on products and customer service. A hands-on approach and ‘can do’ attitude mean Lisa’s fantastic team follows her outstanding example and continues to thrive.
Lisa and her 13 stores not only deliver piping hot pizza across Scotland but are also very actively involved in supporting numerous local groups, charities, and events. In addition, she dedicates a great deal of her spare time to encouraging others to develop their business skills.
When Lisa started running her first store weekly sales were approximately £4K per week, and 18 years on, Lisa’s weekly turnover across her 13 stores is £275K. This is down to a combination of sticking to Domino’s tried and test formula, as well as building a strong group of people around her.
