When Mike Allen took early retirement in 2019, he quickly realised, it wasn’t for him.
Mike’s career has been driven by his enduring sense of purpose, ‘to help people to see where they could get to, and so help them achieve extraordinary things’. He discovered that the Business Doctors purpose and value set was the perfect fit to help him achieve this.
Only three months in, the national lockdown was imposed. Whilst Mike already had clients, he knew he simply had to do something to help.
Paying it forward
Mike made the decision to help as many local businesses as he could, offering his support to those who needed it and sharing the benefit of his experience in leading businesses large and small. And not wishing to profit from the catastrophe that is Covid-19, all his advice would be provided on a strictly pro bono basis.
Signing up in the capacity of Mentor/Advisor to a number of organisations including: The Birmingham Enterprise Community, Enterprise Nation, HSBC’s Birmingham Expresso Club, enabled Mike to help even more businesses in need of support during this uncertain and challenging time. Since then, Mike has engaged with over 200 businesses, some face to face, others via webinars and whilst he made no profit from this, he feels he is delivering on his sense of purpose and has built many strong, new relationships. Naturally he has gained new clients as a result but that was not the core reason for doing what he did.
