Steve Felmingham, former managing consultant with The Franchising Centre, has joined the board of rapidly-expanding franchisor Banana Moon Day Nursery Ltd. He was instrumental in the original development of the Banana Moon franchise model within his previous role.
In the two and a half years since launch, Banana Moon already have 10 franchised nurseries open and trading, and a further 17 franchisees signed up and preparing their premises for opening. The quick growth has seen the franchise act to ensure it has the right support in place for its burgeoning network, as managing director Mark Bates explained.
“It is imperative that we have the infrastructure in place to handle this level of growth,” he said. “We know what a franchisee needs in terms of support, and the only way to achieve this is to bring in talented, experienced people.
“We are building a support team which we think will be unrivalled in our sector, and are ready to take Banana Moon to the next level. Steve is a fundamental part of this and we are delighted to have him on board.”
Steve has nearly 20 years experience in franchising having been a franchisee, a franchisor, an international master franchisee and a consultant. So what made him take the leap with Banana Moon?
“I have seen countless different business models over the years,” Steve says, “many of them excellent in their own way, but the Banana Moon model just ticks every box; it’s recession-proof, it’s in a growing market, it’s in a sector which is very heavily driven by systems and processes and it’ll never be replaced by an online version – it’s perfect for franchising!
“The success of the model is no coincidence, but the icing on the cake is that the team at Banana Moon are some of the most genuine people you’ll ever meet and are dedicated to the success of their franchisees. That’s a really compelling combination and the reason why I felt they were the team to join, and that now is the right time to do it.”
Steve took up his position on the board on 2nd April.
