Company Overview

Established in 1844, the Co-op is the UK’s fifth biggest food retailer with more than 2,500 local, convenience and medium sized company owned stores. In addition, through the acquisition of Nisa and supply agreement with CSG, we now supply 4,000 extra independent outlets. As well as having clear financial and operational objectives and employing nearly 70,000 people, we’re a recognised leader for our social goals and community-led programmes. We exist to meet members’ needs and stand up for the things they believe in. That’s why we are different

Franchise Overview

In 2018 the first Co-op franchise store opened, owned by the Costcutter Supermarket Group. The Co-op branded store in Guiseley and a further three have opened including the first franchise store on a university campus, staffed by students. This is a unique proposition for independent retailers who share the Co-op values and principles to become part of the Co-op community and share in the Co-op’s convenience success, which has seen it achieve five years of consecutive like-for-like growth.

Training

  • Full end to end supportive training at launch for the entire store team
  • Dedicated support, training and account team to help Franchisees through their journey
  • Training programmes tailored to roles in store. Store Managers and Franchisees to receive up to 11 days of training all other colleagues to receive up to 6 days training  
  • Training delivered by a combination of on the job training, eLearning, workbooks, guides and online ‘How Do I’ platform
  • Post store launch support will be provided to Franchisees for an agreed number of weeks (approx. 3), where Co-op SMEs will be embedded in the franchise store to help embed store processes, routines and training

 

Daily Life of a franchisee

The franchisee reviews Business Information and communications to focus and direct the operations of the store, maximise sales opportunities while enhancing profitability. Daily activity will be a mix of office based activities and hands on coaching on the shop floor to provide leadership to your team.
