ComputerXplorers runs computer classes for kids. We prepare children for a technology driven future through extra-curricular education at after school sessions, weekend academies, holiday camps and in school lessons.
Since our launch in 2006, we have grown to include 22 UK and six international family businesses teaching over 10,000 students, from pre-school through to secondary each week. With over 12 million children in the UK, more than 23,000 primary schools, and over 30,000 pre-schools and nurseries the potential market is huge! We’ve grown 300% in the last year and we also have ambitious growth plans for rapid expansion across the UK, Europe and the US.
The technology industry counts for over 6.3% of UK jobs1 and this is only forecast to grow. Despite technologies important role, many schools currently do not have capacity to teach it extensively so our unique lesson plans and curriculum, created with professional educators and experts, go above and beyond the national curriculum equipping children with the best tech skills. It’s not just about computing or coding as we cover all different types of technology from apps to gaming, animation to robotics. Our lessons are fun, interactive and engaging, meaning kids learn without knowing it.

What is the opportunity?
As a franchisee you will provide specialist classes in all sorts of settings – from after school computing clubs, fun, educational classes for nurseries, holiday and weekend camps, home schools, museums, festivals, even hospitals.
As part of the franchise launch package, each franchisee will have onboarding training. This consists of a week-long training session with the ComputerXplorers management team where we will cover all the key elements for starting a business, from software and lesson plans to marketing and promotion.
As opposed to starting your own business, franchisees benefit from a network of experience business owners and a central head office means there will be total corporate back-up along the way as well. We actively encourage franchises to share best practise in online forums and conferences. You’re never alone when you’re part of a franchise.
It’s important to note, we do take on people with little to no IT or education background so we know it’s important to provide a comprehensive start-up package with full training and on-going support. Most importantly, we need you to have an appetite to help children make the leap from technology consumers to creative geniuses!
One of the benefits of owning a franchise is you can choose how to run your business, whether it’s working from home or from an office, each day will likely be different. There are typically three main areas franchisees focus their efforts on and they are, business development, recruitment and marketing.
‘Business development’ involves connecting with schools to offer after school clubs, workshops or weekend clubs. These are valued relationships and so even when the school is onboard, you’ll be in regular contact with the school and gathering their feedback will be important for continued improvement.
Initially, many franchisees chose to teach the classes themselves as this saves on overheads. However, with expansion comes the need to recruit teachers and so you’ll spend time recruiting, mentoring and teaching them to deliver as well as checking-in with them regularly to ensure they have the tools they need.
Whilst Head Office will provide marketing support for the first year, there will be the need for the franchisee to create localised marketing content such as social media posts or partnerships.
