Our franchise proposition offers residential sales and lettings throughout Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire. Our franchisees further benefit from access to a wide range of property related revenue streams including the selling and renting of property, property management, financial services, conveyancing, surveys and valuations, corporate instructions for new homes and part exchange, as well as being members of The Guild of Professional Estate Agents.
Founded in 1999 by Mark Newton, an estate agent and industry specialist since 1976, Newton Fallowell is now one of the largest and most successful estate agents in the East Midlands. Our current network of franchise branches stretches from Burton in the west, to Boston in the east and from Leicester in the south, to Retford in the north, providing wide market coverage.
Our ethos is to recognise individual needs and requirements. Previous estate agency experience is not essential to become a Newton Fallowell franchisee.
We work with you to create a bespoke induction and training course for you and your team, so no matter what your experience we will a have solution to suit your requirements.
Training covers an introduction to Newton Fallowell, residential sales and lettings, IT and software, marketing, legal compliance, accounts, office management and business planning.
You will be based between the office and on the road visiting properties and meeting landlords, tenants, sellers and buyers. You will be making sales calls and customer service calls. Dealing with members of the public on the phone and face-to-face. Monitoring monthly budget and forecasts and profit and loss accounts.
Having started my career with Halifax as an estate agency-based trainee mortgage adviser, I “grew up” as a 100% financial services type of person. Progression through the ranks and a couple of well-timed career moves ultimately led me to running Newton Fallowell’s mortgage business. It was in this role that I started to see the benefits and potential of being your own boss but with the support network of an established estate agency.
Ready for a change, I saw an opportunity and decided to take my biggest ever risk – leaving the safe environment of what I knew inside out to become an estate agent! My wife, Marnie, agreed to join me as my business partner. Although I’d worked in estate agency for the majority of my career I’d never BEEN an estate agent. More importantly, even though I’d run a business I’d never owned one.
Being an estate agent is never going to be an easy choice, especially if you’re going to own your own business. I truly believe that as a franchisee of Newton Fallowell you could not have a better platform from which to succeed – you really get the best of both worlds – independent estate agent, business owner, employer…but with the full benefits of a network of offices, the benefits of group purchase power and a dedicated support team to deal with the things you really don’t have time to deal with, allowing you time to focus on and grow your business.
When I took on Swadlincote in June 2006 it was a marginal office in profit terms. Since I took it on we have seen profit ever year in a challenging market and economic climate. We are now market leader. In 2009 we started a lettings business, which has at least doubled year-on-year and provides a valuable income stream.
Being part of a successful franchise such as Newton Fallowell has played a huge part in the success of my business. Having the skills is one thing. Having the support, expertise and knowledge of an established business is something else.
Lincoln Sales and Lettings and Sleaford Sales Opened in 2007
Having started a successful career in the independent sector of estate agency, I could see the benefits of being my own boss and being able to deliver the standards of service and methods I had learnt over the previous years. From my experience in the marketplace I could also see the benefits of the larger agents in terms of coverage and branding and so a Newton Fallowell package seemed like the perfect solution.
Being able to make all my own decisions allowed me to personalise my service to the local market; but also having the larger brand awareness and backing from head office gave me the competitive edge over other smaller local independents.
As the market conditions changed, and being a landlord myself, I realised it was the obvious transition to expand into the rental sector and again having the support from head office accelerated the performance levels from a standing start into a decent sized portfolio without compromising on customer service levels.
Moving forwards the business continues to grow, having access to all areas of income streams with mortgages, conveyancing and surveys within the Newton Fallowell group with the added advantage of being able to tap into all the accumulated experience when some advice is needed giving me the confidence in these challenging but exciting times.
Retford Sales and Lettings Opened in 2007
Having spent 21 years working for the largest service company in the world, I was brought up knowing that customer service was paramount and having investigated the local market I established that many local agents were there for their own benefit and not for that of the customer.
I knew of Newton Fallowell through acquaintances and investigated the company and its set up. Their motto “raising the standards of estate agency” was what I found to be the case and that is how we have approached the business in Retford. I had meetings with the directors and agreed a way forward, which included advice on funding, costs, a business plan and training which was very comprehensive and professional.
Whilst initially tough, by the end of year one the business was seeing an improvement in our performance and cash flow. By the end of year two we were in profit and growing rapidly. After five years of trading our turnover has increased by 250% and our profitability has increased in line with turnover.
We have recently had a high demand for rental properties in the area and, having found the right partner, we have now opened a dedicated lettings department.
All the way through setting up the franchise, Newton Fallowell senior staff assisted and continue to give support and advice on all aspects of running the business.
I would strongly recommend the Newton Fallowell franchise route. I have just signed up for a further 5 years and the letting business is now taking off too.
Sleaford Lettings Opened in 2006
Having had 24 years’ experience in banking, dealing with customers and procedures, lettings seemed an ideal opportunity to become my own boss and the challenge was very appealing with the support of Newton Fallowell behind me.
Having spent most of my life in and around the Sleaford area, it seemed an ideal opportunity to take a leap into the lettings business. My husband and his son were running a successful sales office with Newton Fallowell and lettings was an ideal ‘add-on’ to expand the business.
I opened as a one-man band in 2006 and through hard work and tenacity built up a large portfolio, and now employ 2 other members of the team: Rebecca and Elaine.
