Company Overview

Onside Coaching has over 20 years’ experience in the children’s sports coaching industry. We provide fun and engaging school holiday childcare services and bespoke sports and activity programmes to primary schools. As a business, we are registered with Ofsted and as a franchising company we are members of The British Franchise Association.  We are proud to be associated with both of these organisations as it demonstrates that we understand the importance of high standards and good practice.

Franchise Overview

OSC Franchising formed 3 years ago. With having so much success with their Central Team, it was time to duplicate in other areas. It was time for the Onside Coaching Central Team to replicate their business model that they have had huge success with for over 20 years. The franchise model operates over 3 areas of business; school provision, holiday childcare and community work. Each of these areas of business can form different topics such as Forest School, Sport and Dance. They welcome new ideas that can be shared across the network of franchisees to share best practice and to offer more branches to the Onside Offering. OSC Franchising has a Franchise Manager, to support growth and be on hand for all franchisees and an inhouse graphic designer for any design work they need to help promote their business.

OSC Franchising aim to be operating Nationwide with franchises in the North, East, West and South of England within the next 5 years.

Training

Every new franchise owner will spend the first 4 weeks completing initial training with the Franchise Manager. They will also shadow Senior Coaches within the central team to understand how they operate in schools. Franchisees will have access to over 60 safeguarding and child protection courses. For example, first aid, DSL, introduction to thematics, mental health first aid, health and safety, GDPR are all mandatory as a business owner. These are all online and can be completed at home.

Franchisees are also invited to any coach training courses ran by HQ. HQ informs the network of any other training available too. These usually take place in the beautiful setting of the HQ office ‘The Warwickshire’ Golf Club.

The franchise manager will hold brief weekly network meetings, to discuss how the week has gone, and what is planned for the following week. Termly planning meeting individually with franchisees and then annual financial and growth meeting that include the Directors.

Franchise Network Meetings also happen termly. This will include specific training to help a certain area of business. This may include social media training, sales training, or recruitment training. The franchise Manager is available at any time to help support business owners.

Daily Life of a franchisee

All the franchisees are Operating Directors. Predominantly working on their business in the morning and in their business most afternoons, ‘on the shop floor’ doing what they do best. Delivering outstanding sessions to schools within their territory. Even the Directors of the Onside Umbrella still deliver sessions today. A typical week would include; keeping contact with existing schools, informing parents of childcare courses, promoting childcare courses and extra-curricular courses, recruiting and training staff, running social media pages, keeping the CMS updated.

From Head of Girls’ Games to owning her own successful business.

Let’s take a look at Lottie’s progress since she launched.

Lottie originally came in for an interview with Onside for a coaching role; a few meetings later and she was signing up to own her own Onside Coaching Franchise – Onside Coaching East Warwickshire.

Her performance over the first two years across has been phenomenal and it’s easy to see why the Onside Directors knew she would be a perfect fit from day one.

Here are some facts and figures summing up her journey so far:

  • 216 bookings for one week during her October Half Term 2019 course, exactly one year on from launch. Lottie’s holiday courses continue to increase, often selling out.
  • Despite Covid effecting things from early 2020, her business grew over the academic year 2019-2020, with sales of £60,000
  • Her team has grown too, and now is made up of both full-time and part-time members of staff, including sports teachers, dance teachers and Forest Schools leaders. Lottie is also recruiting for another lead coach going into Summer 2021!
  • Now in her third year of business, a new area within her territory has been targeted and she is on course to surpass £100,000 of sales this academic year.
  • During lockdown Lottie launched a campaign for members of her local community called Park Life. It was an initiative to bring ‘life’ back to parks and walks in the local area. Families use a map to locate different QR codes, which when scanned plays a video of her team setting a challenge.
  • She took on the local Cross-Country events in her area.
  • Lottie and her team continued to work through the Covid-19 pandemic providing Key Worker children with PE and outdoor learning.
  • During lockdown online learning became the only way for some children to access education. Lottie and her team provided parents, schools and children with online lessons and activities to keep all children active throughout the pandemic.
  • She now has over 800 followers on her Facebook Page.

Her results are a testament to the hard work she puts in. She always listens to advice, she’s focussed, driven and never lets barriers stand in her way. Not even a global pandemic can stop her growing!

Lottie Jones

Next Generation Franchisee

A very proud moment for Onside Coaching. Lottie Jones – Director of Onside Coaching East Warwickshire was nominated for the ‘Next Generation’ Award at the HSBC British Franchise Association Awards 2021. She was 1 of 4 out of 80 applicants to be nominated. She had a day in London, filming and doing interviews, then we had an evening of celebration at the awards ceremony on the 30th November 2021.

At just 25 Lottie has shown resilience and determination to get where she is today. With little to no business background, Lottie has driven her business with passion and learnt along the way, building relationships with schools, parents, staff, her own employees and of course the children. She has followed the advice and business model of the Franchise to get her this far. She may not have taken home the trophy that night, but to us she is a winner and she’s still got 10 years to be able to achieve it.

The HSBC BFA Awards – The Next Generation Franchisee Award.
