A comprehensive career plan and education programme are provided to all its people, from trainee to franchisee, to ensure quality remains consistently high across the network – whether through delivery of service, customer care or brand experience.
The group’s ethos of providing continuous, free training to its people not only engages and motivates but also ensures a network of experts which ultimately help build successful salon businesses.
The company’s compulsory induction training for all new team members, from trainee to franchisee, ensures all Saks people are immersed from day one in the brand and its values, signature techniques, consultation, customer care and company systems and policies.
Saks franchisees are trained and nurtured with a range of business workshops run by leading industry experts and the group’s senior managers. In addition, hands-on training is delivered to new salon owners from experienced franchisees who are assigned as mentors to share their daily experiences of running a salon. Also, one-to-one sessions between Saks’ business development managers and franchisees are tailored to meet individual needs. All this, along with the Saks Operations and Policy Manuals, assists them in the successful day to day running of their salons.
Saks franchisees have a time plan to work to which involves either working on the salon floor or front of house, holding weekly team meetings, ensuring salon standards are adhered to, completing regular staff appraisals and/or one-to-one meetings, training the team on in-salon customer care and procedures, implementing local marketing strategies and salon events, ordering stock, and setting and controlling salon budgets.
Becky and Paul both started hairdressing at 17. When they decided to open their own salon they wanted backing from a well-established national brand rather than chance going it alone in tough trading times.
Paul says: "We chose Saks franchising because of the company's award-winning education, which we experienced first-hand whilst training with Saks Training UK. Training is everything at Saks and we love that our team learn Saks techniques and trends from Saks Art Team. We get opportunities to send them to assist Saks Art Team backstage at events such as London Fashion Week. It's great for inspiration, motivation and personal development. We also receive great management training. We totally recommend Saks franchising to those looking to set up their own hair salon business."
Nicola started working at a Saks salon aged 19 and is now a super-respected beauty franchisee.
Nicola says: "I always wanted to work for a company who think outside the box and that's what I love about Saks. You get a great level of support from everyone in the network. All angles are covered: from finance to marketing - you name it, Saks help is always at your fingertips."
Twins Natalie and Natasha dreamt of having their own hair salon from a young age. Natalie joined the Saks network at 15 and completed hairdressing qualifications through Saks Apprenticeships.
When the time came for the two of them to start their own business it was obvious that they would start a partnership together, and with Saks! Now the duo owns the Saks franchises in Lytham and Poulton. Natalie focuses her energy on the creative side whilst Natasha looks after the running of the salons and together they have already gained various accolades in the hairdressing industry.
Natalie says: "Opening a salon was a lifelong dream and the decision to open a Saks salon proved to be the best decision over and over! Having 'Saks' above our door attracts a high calibre of customers and staff. The training we receive is second to none and the industry opportunities with Saks Art Team are amazing. We love being part of a fantastic, friendly franchise and wouldn't dream of doing anything else."
Mannie runs a very successful franchise in Hertford which has previously been awarded Saks Salon of the Year. For Mannie, the support that the franchising model gives him, in terms of marketing, training and access to business advice allows him to focus on what he does best - which is run his business and deliver a front-of-house experience that knocks customers' socks off, leaving them feeling treated every time.
John worked for Saks for 10 years before opening his salon. John loves how the creativity from Saks Art Team is shared within the network - hair experts everywhere!
"Saks is a great business that's stood the test of time - over 40 YEARS, how many hair and beauty brands can say that? The fact that it's the leading hair and beauty company in the UK was a big reason for me choosing to open a Saks franchise. From working at Saks Ripon I knew how slickly-run the network is, and was aware of the excellent support the group offers. Being a Saks franchisee allows me to exploit Saks as a business opportunity, whilst also giving me the all-important hairdressing inspiration that sets me apart."
Ellie worked with a major national hair chain for several years but, fully aware of Saks' superb reputation, always had her eye on opening her own Saks salon and jumped at the chance to bring the brand to Exeter. Having completed extensive management training with L'Oréal and also spent time on cruise ships and working in Europe, Ellie now utilises her skills and international experience as franchisee of Saks Exeter.
Ellie says: "Reputation is everything and Saks has it in abundance! The brand has stood the test of time and as a franchisee, I'm in the very best hands. The business support is exemplary and my turnover, since opening, has completely surpassed my expectations. I adore the Saks brand; the ethos, that every customer should be made to feel special, is something I really believe in and I've been over the moon with everything about my Saks journey."
Claire is a true Saks woman having joined as a stylist in 2002 and spent the next few years working hard at advancing her career through various Saks training opportunities, including training as a L'Oreal Colour Degree Specialist.
Claire owns the multi award-winning Saks franchise in Kings Hill and says "Loving the Saks way of life as much as I did, it was the only choice to become a Saks franchisee. I am excited and honoured to provide the Saks service to David Lloyd members and also a wider clientele. If any challenges come my way, I'm fully supported by Saks HQ and I wouldn't change it for the world. I love being part of the Saks family and I can't imagine ever doing anything else!"
Becky trained with Saks as a hairdresser at 16 and then decided to expand her skills by training and working as a beauty therapist for eight years before taking the leap and opening our first salon dedicated solely to the Saks Beauty offering.
Becky says: "I SO believe in the Saks ethic and my familiarity with the company meant I knew they'd help me make this a success. I receive continuous support from Saks HQ. It's amazing being part of this prestigious group, help is always at the end of the phone and from our other franchisees - a great community!"
