Company Overview

The Wheel Specialist, supports luxury car enthusiasts turn their passion for quality into a profitable business, even without industry experience.

We first started franchising in 2006, but our model is built on the success of a business founded in 1955! Three generations later and we continue to thrive through recessions, the pandemic, and economic crises. We now have over 25 franchisees across the UK, delivering what our customers want: alloy refurbishment – and in 2021 we celebrated the refurbishment of our one millionth wheel!

Franchise Overview

Even in today’s uncertain times, our business continues to grow, with 92% of our franchisees seeing record sales growth in 2021. By combining their determination with our training, support, and guidance, franchisees deliver job satisfaction to our collective 20,000+ trade and public customers each year, whilst enjoying a share in the total quotable work received by the network of £30m p/a.

Operating from your own plush showroom, rather than as a mobile unit, both private and trade customers will experience high satisfaction from the quality service you and your team deliver.

 

Training

Franchisees do not need any experience in the industry to succeed with our management franchise. However, you will need to demonstrate strong management skills, a willingness to learn The Wheel Specialist way, and the desire to understand every aspect of their business as it grows.

Based on almost seven decades of operational success, the TWS support team deliver a comprehensive, bespoke training programme to both franchisees and their staff. This includes:

  • operational and technical training
  • sales training to convert leads generated for you from our customer website (including 200 trade leads upon opening)
  • HR
  • health & safety
  • and business management

We also have a Trade Sales expert, who will visit prospective customers in your territory, on your behalf when you first open for business. He will then show you the best way to follow-up with them, giving you the confidence to connect with trade customers.

Our highly experienced head office team are right beside you throughout, from finding the right location for your showrooms, to knowing how to expand your customer database as you grow.

Daily Life of a franchisee

Working in your own showroom in a large, exclusive territory, franchisees start with a small team of technicians, part-time admin, and marketing. Although fully trained in how to carry out the work on customers’ cars, many franchisees’ primary role is managing their team as they deliver the TWS 5* service, and respond to leads generated as they build relationships with customers.

John & Amanda Tice

Husband-and-wife team John and Amanda Tice have recently brought the St.Albans franchise of The Wheel Specialist.

John, a keen car enthusiast, searched everywhere locally for an alloy wheel refurbishment service for his Porsche. Unsuccessful in finding somewhere close to home that had the quality service he wanted, he broadened his search and travelled all the way to Southampton to have his wheels refurbished by the branch there. He was so impressed with the service he received he decided to buy the business!

A clear niche market in the local area, the Tices are confident this is a service St.Albans will love. A common misconception when you scuff your alloy wheels is that you have to replace them. Wrong: a superior service, renovating your tired worn alloys, makes them look better than new and all for a fraction of the price of replacement wheels.

Fortunately they understand it can be a major inconvenience to be without your car, therefore they provide a same day service, drop your car in in the morning and have it back the same day. Whether in need of a repair, a manufacturer match or a unique, bespoke look, they’re your guys.

Derek Farr and Andy Thompson

Lifelong mates Derek Farr and Andy Thompson explain why joining The Wheel Specialist was the best decision they had ever made.

Derek explains: “I was working as a franchise consultant and was aware of The Wheel Specialist opportunity. I could really see the potential. I researched my local area further which showed an obvious niche in the market. When I mentioned the opportunity to my friend Andy, he was keen to partner up. We opened our doors to business in September and have never looked back.”

Both Derek and Andy are passionate about cars but have very different working backgrounds. “I was looking for a career change from engineering when Derek mentioned the franchise opportunity, it never crossed my mind that just a few months later I would be running my very own business,” says Andy. “The Wheel Specialist provided all the knowledge and support we needed to get up and running.
