Company Overview

Betterclean Services is a UK-based commercial cleaning business with over 30 years of experience delivering contract cleaning to organisations across a wide range of sectors.

Since our establishment in 1995, the business has grown from a single local operation into a national brand with a structured management franchise model and a network of independently owned territories.

We specialise in providing regular, contract-based cleaning services to commercial clients, with a keen focus on consistent service delivery, quality standards, and long-term working relationships with clients.

Typical clients include:

  • Offices and professional services firms
  • Schools and educational premises
  • Healthcare settings
  • Industrial sites and warehouses
  • Retail, leisure and hospitality venues

We began franchising in 2011, with the structure developed from the perspective of someone who had been a franchise owner themselves – leading to a keen emphasis on an immense level of franchise owner support, systems, and training.

The model is designed as a management franchise: franchise owners are responsible for building and leading their own teams, developing local client relationships, and growing their business within a large exclusive territory.

Head Office provides the framework, tools, and guidance to help franchise owners do this effectively. This includes initial training, access to bespoke software, marketing support, and ongoing operational guidance.

At the same time, the model is structured so that franchise owners are clearly responsible for driving new business, building their own local profile, and developing their customer base over time.

We operate solely within the UK and continue to expand our national coverage through carefully selected franchise owners.

Our long-term objective is sustainable growth of the network and maintaining high service standards for clients, while supporting franchise owners to build commercially robust, scalable businesses.

We passionately believe the relationship between us and our franchise owners is a long-term partnership, with shared interest in the success of each local business and the reputation of the brand as a whole. With that in mind, we are wholly committed to the utmost professional standards, open communication, and collaborative working across all aspects of our operations.

Training

As a key pillar of our commitment to delivering platinum-level support to franchise owners, comprehensive training is a core element of the Betterclean Services franchise model.

Our aim is to ensure all new franchise owners feel fully prepared to run a management business, including understanding the operational standards of the brand, and having the confidence to develop and grow their territory over time.

Initial training begins with a structured induction programme, typically delivered over five days at our Swindon training facilities. This combines classroom-based sessions with practical, scenario-led work.

During this time, new franchise owners are brought fully up to speed with the Betterclean Services brand, values and operating model, and are taken through the processes that underpin the business.

Induction training covers both day-to-day operations and the wider business skills required to run a successful commercial cleaning franchise. Topics include understanding the commercial cleaning market, the services offered, and how contracts are specified and managed.

There is detailed training on pricing, quoting and preparing proposals, as well as the systems and processes used to set up and manage client contracts.

Alongside this, there is a strong focus on business development training. Franchise owners receive extensive training in sales and marketing, including how leads are generated, how to handle enquiries, and how to build and nurture relationships with prospective clients in their territory.

This is reinforced with guidance on executing local marketing activity and making effective use of the central marketing support provided.

Practical guidance is also provided around the recruitment, onboarding, and management of cleaning staff – including rota planning, supervision, quality checks, and health and safety requirements.

New franchise owners are also trained on our bespoke software and app, which are used to manage clients, staff, schedules and administration.

Formal training does not end at the induction; there is also a structured programme of ongoing platinum-level support throughout the first year and beyond, with more frequent contact in the important early months.

This typically includes regular check-ins with the support team, remote sessions to revisit key topics such as sales, operations and staffing, and periodic business and marketing reviews to help franchise owners monitor performance and plan next steps.

Further training is available as the business grows, whether in response to specific development needs or as part of network-wide initiatives.

The overall objective of our training and support system is to ensure franchise owners are fully equipped with the operational knowledge and business skills required to build and manage a successful, scalable commercial cleaning business under the Betterclean Services brand.

What will I do as a Franchisee

Daily life as a Betterclean Services franchise owner is varied, but management-focused.

Rather than carrying out cleaning work yourself, your time is spent developing your business, managing your team and looking after client relationships within your large exclusive territory.

In the early stages, a typical day will usually start with reviewing your schedule, checking emails and messages from clients and staff, and planning priorities.

You may spend time following up on new enquiries you’ve generated through your own outreach and local networking, plus any leads from central marketing activity. This often includes arranging site visits, preparing quotations and talking through proposals with prospective clients.

A key part of the role is meeting decision-makers at local organisations and businesses. This might involve visiting offices, schools, healthcare settings, or other commercial premises to understand clients’ requirements, survey the site, and discuss how your Betterclean Services business can meet their needs.

You then work with the systems and framework provided to price the work correctly, prepare a clear proposal, and follow up to secure the contract.

Alongside business development, you are responsible for building and managing your team of cleaning staff and supervisors. Your day may include interviewing new staff, organising rotas, arranging training, and dealing with any staffing issues that arise.

You will also keep an eye on service delivery through spot checks, client feedback, and regular communication with your team to ensure the high standards your franchise will be known for are maintained.

There is a regular administrative element to the role, supported by our bespoke software and processes. This can include updating client and staff records, reviewing budgets and key performance figures, and planning local marketing activity.

You will also regularly speak with your dedicated Head Office support team to review progress, discuss challenges, and plan next steps as you work to scale your franchise.

As your business grows and your own management team becomes more established, the balance of your daily activities typically shifts further towards higher-level tasks – such as developing larger opportunities, refining your local marketing, strengthening key client relationships, and planning for future growth.

Throughout your franchise ownership, the aim is to leverage our proven systems and support to build a stable, contract-based, recurring income business that you manage and develop over the long term.
