Inspiring the next generation of franchisees

As one of the most successful theatre school franchisors in the UK, educating the next generation of potential franchisees is an important mission in the business’s ethos.

Razzamataz Theatre Schools was delighted to be a guest speaker at Gradstock Careers Festival 2022. Gradstock is Middlesex University’s annual careers and employment festival. Now, in its fifth year, Gradstock puts a unique twist on a traditional careers fair to offer all MDX students and graduates the opportunity to engage with a selected line-up of employers from a range of sectors.

PR and Content Manager, Karen Keeman, represented the award-winning theatre school at the event and was invited to be a guest speaker as part of the Tent Talk set up. During the day, Karen was able to speak about careers in performing arts, how to run a theatre school and the benefits of being part of an experienced and well-known franchise brand.

Razzamataz is committed to giving young people exciting career possibilities through franchising. Whether it is being part of the teaching team, admin staff or even becoming a franchisee to open their own Razzamataz school, there are a wide range of opportunities for graduates.

Gradstock 2022 was our biggest and most successful on-campus careers fair in recent history,” says Jack Tims, Head of MDXworks (Careers & Employability Service). “Without the participation of our industry partners this would never have been possible. This year, our expanded arts and creative industries programme was a real highlight, with Razzamataz Theatre Schools contributing to our line-up of unique Tent Talks, engaging with students from our undergraduate and postgraduate performing arts community and helping them to learn about the franchise options that are available to them.

“Industry collaboration and input is the best way for students to learn about what to expect in life after their degree and at Middlesex we continue to grow our partnerships with businesses like Razzamataz to ensure that they have a true understanding of both the current and future world of work.”

During the event, Karen was able to invite the students and graduates to the Razzamataz Team Celebration Day on Sunday 13th November at the iconic Pineapple Dance Studios in Covent Garden, London. The event will be headlined by West End and Broadway musical theatre star Kerry Ellis, who has fast become recognised as the leading lady of musicals from her starring roles in sell-out shows. The day will consist of various workshops with industry experts, including a Hamilton workshop with a former cast member and Razzamataz student as well as drama workshops.

Launching at the Team Celebration Day is the Teacher Training Platform, that will give teachers and staff access to information and advice about franchising and the business side of running a school as well as being an amazing training resource for all teaching and admin staff.

The Teacher Training Platform enables Razzamataz to assist with the career progression of everyone that works for Razzamataz, giving many people the opportunity to fulfil their ambitions. A great example of this is Amber Gibney, University of Cumbria graduate, age 24 who is a new franchisee of Razzamataz Stockton on Tees. Amber had been teaching at Razzamataz South Lakes for about 18 months when she decided that she really wanted to move back to her hometown and with the Head Office support, realised the best way to do this was open a Razzamataz school.

“I love the fact that Razzamataz allows me to be my own boss but with support of the network and a framework that gives me the tools that I need. Through the training process, I know that I can turn my passion for performing arts into a profitable business,” says Amber.

Current Razzamataz franchisees are currently in the process of establishing links with other universities across the UK, to reach more students and graduates to educate them about the opportunities in franchising, jobs currently available within the Razzamataz network and how to run their own business.
