Outstanding franchisees receive Mail Boxes Etc. accolade

Franchisees Daniel Scott, who has stores in Watford and Milton Keynes, and Murli Mulchandani and Rikesh Nichani, who operate four central London stores, have been named Mail Boxes Etc. Franchisees of the Year.

They were chosen from a network of over 135 franchisees for their business acumen and success, as well as their significant contributions to the network as a whole.

This year, for the first time, Mail Boxes Etc. involved franchisees in the selection of award winners by asking them to name those who make the most consistent contribution to the overall success and growth of the network. Nominations were carefully considered in the final analysis along with business results.

Announcing the awards, sales and marketing director Michael Hawkins said: “The award-winners truly deserve their success; they work hard and help others. They are also committed to the network and its success. That having been said, it was a tough job deciding, such was the impressively high calibre of all franchisees’ performance.”

Delighted with their accolade, Murli and Rikesh said: “We were totally surprised, particularly as we had won the award previously in 2007. What made it even more special was that we received recognition from the network as well. It is very humbling to be nominated by our peers.”

Franchisees for 11 years, business partners and brothers-in-law Murli and Rikesh first met Mail Boxes Etc. at a London franchise exhibition. Before becoming franchisees, Murli headed a company that imported and distributed children’s wear and Rikesh worked in the IT industry. They were looking for a business where they could work together and chose franchising because it is a safer route to self-employment than starting a venture from scratch.

Daniel had always wanted to have his own business and was pleased to discover that franchising offered a ready-made opportunity to achieve his ambition – many years earlier than he had thought possible.

He was only 27 when he opened his first store in Watford. “Opening a second Mail Boxes Etc. store was always in the plan,” says Daniel. Unable to find suitable local premises, he began to look elsewhere before finally deciding to take a store in Milton Keynes, which opened this spring.

Mail Boxes Etc. offers the safe and secure packaging and despatch of parcels to destinations all over the UK and internationally, with other services including mail box rental, printing, document finishing, photocopying, corporate literature design, office supplies and stationery. The franchise also provides postal services, filling some of the gaps left by the closure of local post offices.
