Puddle Ducks celebrate the inspirational women across their network

Puddle Ducks, a baby and child swim school franchise now stretches to a network of 33 franchise offices operating over 50 markets across England, Wales and Scotland.

The award-winning network teaches over 24,000 little swimmers to love and respect the water each week!

Founders Jo Stone and Tracy Townsend met at an antenatal class and realised their true love for the water when taking their daughters to swimming lessons together. The idea for Puddle Ducks came about as a result of their desire to help all children develop a passion for swimming, becoming one of the first franchises in the sector.

Since franchising the business in 2005, they have welcomed a wave of female franchisees alongside married couples to their franchise network. These franchisees realised the huge potential in the sector, but were also attracted to a flexible way of working, as well as significant growth and turnovers.

Jo comments: “We are proud to have so many successful female franchisees, alongside a number of couples across our franchise network. But it is the perfect opportunity for anyone who has a passion for the water and a desire to help children learn to swim.

“It is great, as a business launched by two women, to have so many other women and couples who have channelled their passion for swimming and childhood development into their Puddle Ducks businesses.”

Victoria Rowley, owner of Puddle Ducks in East Kent, North Kent and South East London and the youngest Puddle Ducks franchisee has had an astounding year. Victoria was awarded as a ‘Resilient Riser’ at the recent British Franchise Association HSBC British Franchise Awards for 2021.

Victoria was recognised for her strength in growing her business despite a number of setbacks, including recovering from a life-threatening illness, growing her team and attaining new pools even throughout the pandemic, and growing her territory and client base.

Jo continues: “The trust that our franchisees have in the brand and the real passion that they have is inspiring, and we love watching their journeys develop. Some of our franchisees have achieved more than we ever could have hoped for, with a recent wave of multi-unit ownership and territory expansions.

“To witness this expansion during covid has brought real pride, and we have been lucky enough to welcome new franchisees even during the pandemic.”

“We are now in the process of moving our franchise forward, offering new options for franchisees wanting to take their businesses to the next level, and we are excited to see how this develops.”

After an unusual few years, the Puddle Ducks network is stronger than ever and operating at its highest ever profitability, with the network teaching their highest customer numbers ever too!
