The second annual The Alternative Board (TAB) conference took place last week, with a truly international feel; this year the conference welcomed facilitators from Germany, the USA and Canada as well as from around the UK – and coinciding with Red Nose Day, they got into the Comic Relief spirit at their awards dinner!
As well as sharing best practice from around the globe, the conference is launching new ways of supporting business owners in the region. These include access to funding for the hundreds of TAB members in the UK through ‘TAB Funding Solutions’; and new programme ‘The Alignment Factor’ to help business owners and their key employees work more effectively together.
In addition to the conference, the company presented its Franchise Owner of the Year Award – this year to David McCartney, TAB North Leeds, who chose The Alternative Board 3 years ago as a business model which would enable him to use his expertise to help SMEs in the Leeds area. Since then, Dave has established and grown his business rapidly despite the economic challenges, facilitating 4 boards and growing his membership to 23 business owners.
Some of Dave’s fellow franchise owners were effusive in their praise of him. Comments included “his ambition is infectious, he has brilliant focus on the financials – I should be doing more of what he has done. He genuinely wants his members to succeed and will put the work in to make it happen”, and “always pushing boundaries and possibilities and sets a high bar of the potential for a TAB franchise business”.
TAB was launched in the UK in June 2009. It currently has 24 franchisees stretching from the south coast to Scotland, with over 250 business owners using their advice and services.
