‘The future of the British high street’: The Massage Company opens in Putney

The multi-award-winning massage franchise, The Massage Company, opened its first London centre on Tuesday, in a launch ceremony attended by Putney MP Fleur Anderson.

Anderson, cutting the ribbon at the new premises, commented: “It’s great to be opening something in Putney. Too often lately, we have seen things closing on our high street, but I think that wellbeing, hospitality, salons, experiences…these businesses are the future of the high street. Employment is such a big issue as we come to the end of furlough, so it’s fantastic to see The Massage Company here creating new jobs and employing local people. And we all need a massage after being hunched over our desks for such a long time.”

Located in the Putney Exchange Shopping Centre, this new centre brings The Massage Company’s unique approach to massage therapy to the community in southwest London, and to commuters across the capital.

Charlie Thompson, co-founder of The Massage Company, commented on the launch: “We’ve long been looking for the right location in London, and Putney has turned out to be a brilliant starting place for us. We wanted to find an area with a sense of community, and Putney not only has a really strong local community but a thriving business community. This is really important for us as business, as we want to build connections with residents and people who work here, as both will be our customers in the years to come.”

With a unique subscription model, accessible locations, and open seven days a week (until 9pm on weekdays), The Massage Company is making massage available to all ages and genders. Their goal is to change the perception of massage in the UK, and show the British public that massage can, and should, become part of regular wellbeing routines. Demand for the service is growing, with the Putney centre already inundated with pre-bookings thanks to the increased focus on self-care following lockdown.

Elliott Walker, co-founder of The Massage Company, also commented: It’s amazing to open our first flagship in London and bring The Massage Company to the capital. Working patterns have changed dramatically in the last 18 months, and people need massage therapy now more than ever. Health and wellbeing are so important to people today, and we’re ultimately trying to get people to understand that regular massage is part of that healthier lifestyle.” To book a massage at the new centre in Putney, or to find a centre near you, visit: massagecompany.co.uk
