MagiKats offers out-of-school tuition in Maths and English for children aged 4-16. Franchisees run small workshop-style tuition classes that support the school curriculum, using teaching materials and methods that have been proven to enhance a child’s development and learning skills.
As the franchise owner, you run your own business in a territory using our tried and tested model that comes with lots of practical and technical support, as well as our own software to manage your workshop programme. Your centre will operate with a small team of tutors that help you deliver workshop sessions and support your students’ learning.
MagiKats franchisees come from all walks of life and do not need to have an education or teaching background. A passion for helping children and teenagers is a must though, as you’ll be working in your local community to encourage student participation, and liaising with parents to reinforce the benefits of our tuition workshops.
We understand that flexibility is key and so our business model suits franchisees that are looking for a part-time business right through to those looking to manage a network of Tuition Centres.
The market
Private tuition is one of the most resilient and robust sectors in the UK and has growing demand. Research from the Sutton Trust has identified that almost a third of young people have received private or home tuition, representing a huge market potential and profitable business opportunity.
With a MagiKats franchise you can support the children in your local community with a ready-made business model and all of our sector experience and brand recognition.
Franchise Support
From support and training for your set-up and launch to ongoing advice, MagiKats is here to help you succeed. We are a family run business with decades of experience in the sector and over 25 territories currently operating in the UK. This means we’ll be on hand to offer guidance every step of the way.
A MagiKats Franchise offers:
• Low cost set up and low fixed costs
• Flexible work/home life balance
• The ability to set your own hours and financial goals
• A well recognised and established brand with a strong reputation
• Comprehensive training and all support materials
• MagiKats software, lesson plans and teaching guides that help you deliver curriculum based workshops
• Marketing collateral and support
• Mentoring and support from head office and our network of franchisees
You’ll have all the tools and training you need to make your MagiKats franchise a success. Our initial training takes place at our headquarters in Farnham and covers practical business advice as well as the MagiKats tuition workshop programme and our software. This initial training is held before you set up your centre so that you can hit the ground running when you’re ready to start trading.
Advice and Guidance
We’ll guide you through the process of setting up your business. Advice on how to recruit tutors, and finding a suitable location to hold your workshop is all covered. A detailed best practice manual covers every area of your business operations to act as a valuable reference. We’ll also arrange check-ins and visit your location once you’re trading to provide 1-2-1 support.
Tuition Programme Training
Our dedicated software includes lesson plans, curriculum information, worksheets and guidance for your tutors to deliver your Maths and English workshops. We’ll train you on how our system works, what you need to do and when, and how to monitor the progress of your students.
Marketing Support
We understand the prospect of marketing your business can be daunting and so have developed a raft of marketing collateral, social media campaigns and strategies for you to use in your local area. We’ll train you in the most effective ways to reach your target audience and provide tips on how to handle and convert enrolment enquiries. Our set-up support also includes the marketing fundamentals for your business such as a marketing plan, website page, social media and directory profiles, so you can start attracting enquiries before you launch your centre.
Ongoing Training and Support
Throughout the year you’ll have access to online training sessions that cover pertinent topics such as changes to the curriculum, our programme, and business advice from external specialists. We also have an active franchisee forum where you can discuss ideas, obtain peer support, and learn about the latest developments from head office and within the network.
Annual Conference
Our annual conference is the perfect opportunity for you to network with other franchisees in person. We organise a series of training seminars in all areas of the business to keep you up to date with the latest developments in our sector, provide operational tips and launch new initiatives.
One of the major benefits of running your own MagiKats franchise is that you can choose how to run your business. Obtaining a positive work-life balance is on the wish list of many of our franchisees and so many of our network fit MagiKats around the demands of their family life.
That said, running a business does take time and effort and so the more time you can put in working on the business, the quicker you will reap the benefits.
Your Centre and Workshops
When you start out, you’ll typically be renting a space (a church hall or community centre) for your workshops and as you develop, you may decide to invest in a lease for dedicated premises.
Each centre usually runs between 2-4 workshops a week running 40 minute sessions. You’ll be managing a small team of tutors (usually 1 tutor to every 6 students) and so need to manage their activities, ensure they have the materials they need, and record student progress as they work through our workshop programme. You’ll also need time to plan in advance of workshops, meet and greet parents and organise the workspace.
Business Development
Business development is incredibly important, especially in the early days, as you’ll want to build brand awareness in your local area. You may be networking in your local area with community groups, organising posters and leaflet drops, or posting on social media groups. You’ll also need to respond swiftly to enquiries and organise new enrolment assessments.
Business Operations
Franchisees will need to organise their invoicing and carry out other administration tasks so that the business runs smoothly. We provide tools and guidance to make these necessary tasks as efficient as possible.
Keeping up to Date
It’s important to keep up to date with developments in our programme and the wider curriculum. Our franchisee forum and dedicated software is an excellent resource and so franchisees review this regularly. We also encourage franchisees to engage with their local community so that they can spot new opportunities and develop relationships that could help develop the business.
