When Sander was made redundant, he saw it as an opportunity to take control of his future by building a business of his own.
With years of practical experience behind him, he joined Local Treasures and focused on what he knew best – handyman services. By delivering excellent workmanship and outstanding customer service, he quickly built a loyal customer base across Farnham, Farnborough and Guildford.
As demand increased, Sander expanded his team to include trusted electricians and plumbers, allowing the business to take on larger, higher-value projects while increasing profitability.
Today, Sander has built a successful Local Treasures business and recently expanded into a second territory, Woking.
But for Sander, growth isn’t just about covering a bigger area – it’s about building a stronger business.
“The handyman work gave us the opportunity to build relationships and earn customers’ trust,” he says. “Once you’ve done a great job, customers naturally come back to you when they need something else.”
With a loyal customer base now firmly established, Sander is focusing on growing the recurring side of his business through gardening and cleaning services. What often starts as a one-off handyman job develops into an ongoing relationship, with customers returning to Local Treasures time and again.
“One customer might first ask us to repair a fence or decorate a room. Later we’re maintaining their garden or cleaning their home every week. Having multiple services means we can continue supporting customers as their needs change.”
As the business has grown, Sander’s own role has changed too.
“I’m gradually coming off the tools and spending more time managing the business, supporting my team and looking for opportunities to grow. That’s always been my ambition.”
Today, Sander leads a growing team of local Treasures delivering handyman, electrical, plumbing, gardening and cleaning services across Surrey. His goal is to continue expanding recurring revenue, developing his team and providing customers with one trusted business they can rely on for a wide range of home services.
“For anyone thinking about starting a franchise, my advice is simple: work hard, build trust with your customers and make the most of the support available. The opportunities are there if you are prepared to take them.”
