Sean Harper – Really Awesome Coffee Northampton West

Please tell us a bit about yourself and what you were doing prior to becoming a Really Awesome Coffee Franchisee.

I worked in the Insurance Industry for over 25 years and really needed a change and always liked the idea of working for myself. I wanted to be my own boss and reap the rewards for the hard work I put in without a set salary but didn’t know how or where to start until I looked into the Franchise route.

Why did you decide to run a business, and why Really Awesome Coffee specifically.

I wanted the ability and flexibility to work the hours I chose, earn how much I decided and when and be my own boss. The Franchise route seemed perfect for me so I set about speaking to over 10 Franchisees to see what they were all about. I attended a discovery day with RAC as the coffee industry was a particular interest of mine and I knew that day I wanted to join the network. The passion, expertise, attention to detail and industry knowledge had me hooked from the first meet.

Tell us a bit about your training at Head Office and your business launch.

As expected, everything from product knowledge, running a business, Marketing and accounting etc etc etc was covered which initially felt overwhelming but reassuring at the same time.

How have you found the ongoing training and support?

The more experience you gain in your business the less one to one support you need but when it’s needed it’s there instantly even when out on the road. The marketing and social media support in my opinion is second to none. There’s always an offer of help and support from HO and the network forum is a great channel to share ideas with other franchisees.

What is the most invaluable piece of advice you could give someone looking to invest in their first franchise?

Be prepared to work hard and trust the franchise model. Realise that the franchise is a ‘template’ with support but it’s you who needs to put the work in.

Never become complacent. Always look to improve, change and keep it fresh. Listen to your customers but don’t pander to unreasonable requests. The list goes on!
