Burger fans in Brighton are having the best Christmas present ever as the iconic Wimpy name returns to the city after a break of nearly 20 years.
The brand-new Wimpy Brighton opened today (20 December) in West Street after a £500,000 investment by incoming franchisee Charlie Bhangal.
Some 30 new jobs have been created and Charlie, who already owns Wimpys in Worthing, Eastbourne and Basingstoke, says he is delighted that Wimpy is once again a feature of the city’s dining scene.
“Wimpy was the pioneer of the burger in the UK and I’m absolutely thrilled to have brought Wimpy back to Brighton just in time for Christmas,” said Charlie. “The city is such a thriving and lively community that we can’t wait for them to be part of the Wimpy family!”
Chris Woolfenden, Wimpy General Manager, said: “We are very excited to have opened a brand-new Wimpy in Brighton. It is such a heritage location for us, our first Wimpy Brighton opened in York Place in 1964, so to be returning to the city in 2024 – our 70th anniversary year – seems very fitting indeed.
“Our franchisee Charlie and his area manager Nick Egan team have a huge amount of experience in the Wimpy family and we know that burger fans and families alike will love coming through the doors to a very warm Wimpy welcome.”
The new 98-seater restaurant features Wimpy’s SHIFT design, which blends the brand’s strong heritage with bright new colours, new seating and Wimpy artwork on the walls.
The previous Wimpy Brighton closed its doors in 2006.
