Mike Melling has been appointed Non-Executive Chair of TAG Business Services Group, supporting the expansion of TaxAssist Plus for franchisees and clients.

The Complementary Services Strategic Business Unit will lead the development of joint ventures and strategic partnerships with major UK national organisations under services available through the TaxAssist Plus proposition. These partnerships will give TaxAssist franchisees and their 120,000 clients access to a growing range of best-in-class, TaxAssist-branded services that complement the core TaxAssist Accountants offering.

The expansion represents a significant milestone for the Group, broadening the services available to personal and small business clients. Through TaxAssist Plus, clients will benefit from access to financial planning, insurance, business banking, savings and cash management, alongside TaxAssist’s established in-house payroll and tax consultancy services.

Mike has played a pivotal role in developing these strategic opportunities. Following a distinguished international career in senior executive positions with leading global financial services organisations, he became TaxAssist’s largest multi-area franchisee. His practice was acquired by the Group Practices Business in 2024, and he joined the Group Board in 2022. Most recently, Mike served as Group Chief Operating Officer, where he oversaw the Group’s financial services activities and helped shape its long-term growth strategy.

Having now stepped back from executive responsibilities, Mike will continue to support the Group in his new non-executive capacity, acting as a senior advocate with strategic partners, industry bodies and sector organisations. He will also play an important role in supporting the development of TaxAssist’s small business representation initiatives.

Commenting on the appointment, The TaxAssist Group CEO Daren Moore said: “Mike has been instrumental in shaping our vision for TaxAssist Plus and identifying the strategic partnerships that will strengthen the services available to our franchise network and their clients. His commercial experience, industry knowledge and understanding of our business make him ideally placed to chair TAG Business Services Group as we enter this exciting new phase of growth. We are delighted that, following his retirement from executive life, Mike has agreed to continue supporting the Group in this important non-executive role.”

Mike’s appointment reinforces The TaxAssist Group’s commitment to expanding the value proposition for franchisees, enabling them to offer an even broader range of trusted business services while continuing to deliver exceptional support to personal and small business clients across the UK.
