Born in London in 1954, Wimpy is a familiar and much-loved name on the UK casual dining scene. Renowned for its delicious Wimpy burgers, secret recipe Special Sauce and iconic Brown Derby; today’s menu also includes a wide selection of breakfast dishes, grills, shakes, desserts and plenty of options for younger diners.

South African-based Famous Brands acquired Wimpy in 2007 bringing new structure, drive, passion and commitment to the Wimpy name and continues to invest and expand into the UK’s casual dining sector. Wimpy is keen to take on more Franchisees who want to be part of an exciting new future.

Wimpy currently has 50 plus restaurants across England and Scotland, all serving freshly cooked to order meals with menus that are reviewed and updated every year with a range of special seasonal offers to tempt both new and existing customers.

Our table service offering sets us apart from the competition, with meals and drinks served on china crockery and in glasses, with ‘proper’ knives and forks, and personal service from waiters and waitresses who enjoy talking to their customers and take pride in their role.

Wimpy has also embraced delivery and now more than half of its restaurants also offer a delivery service through key players in the market.

Wimpy is proud to support both environmental and animal welfare initiatives and guarantees that all own label Wimpy products and dishes only use products and ingredients from free range eggs.

The fact that Wimpy has been around for over seven decades, entertaining families from more than four generations, goes to show that Wimpy, above all other brands, remains close to the heart of many and will continue to do so for years to come!

Training

When you buy into a Wimpy franchise, you’re buying into a heritage brand that is very proud of its British roots and its unique place in people’s hearts. And, as Wimpy is a full member of the British Franchise Association, you can have absolute confidence in its professionalism and high standards.

You’ll be allowed to use the Wimpy name, benefit from its tried and tested business methods, enjoy on-the-job training and mentoring at one of its flagship sites and, in return, sign a Franchisee Agreement which makes you part of the Wimpy team.

Franchisees are supported by a regional Franchise Manager, as well as a Business Development Manager. Plus, a dedicated head office team, who will also assist with purchasing, sales and marketing.

The Wimpy offering sets it apart from the rest of today’s fast-food outlets and in many areas, it is recognised as one of the hubs of the local community. Becoming a Franchisee provides an opportunity to embrace that important role, something that many existing Franchisees recognise by supporting local charities and groups.

Wimpy believes there are certain critical success factors which the brand must embrace and continue to build on to deliver ongoing success. It considers the most important ingredients to be:
• Quality of the food
• Freshly prepared meals
• Value for money
• Strength and positioning of the Wimpy name
• A committed team, both in the UK and South Africa

Indeed, a number of current franchisees have ‘grown up’ in the Wimpy family, taking over the franchise as the next generation from other family members, while others joined as employees before realising the great opportunities available.

Whatever your reason, there’s little doubt that taking on a Wimpy franchise will be hard work, but it will also be very rewarding – and you never know, you could end up winning the prestigious title of Regional Wimpy of the Year.
All new Franchisees receive up to six weeks on-the-job training and mentoring at a flagship restaurant, including practical assessments and evaluation. Full details of all standards and procedures are included in the manuals provided to all Franchisees.

Wimpy’s support team includes Franchise Managers (Area Managers) who act as the primary contact between the Franchisee and head office. They are responsible for carrying out regular performance evaluations to ensure Wimpy’s professional standards are maintained at all times, and they have particular expertise in new store openings and management changes.

Their role includes putting a spotlight on the look, feel and taste of the product, compliance, staff training and food safety, as well as meeting QSCVF standards (Quality, Service, Cleanliness, Value and Friendliness). They will work on brand building, promotions and also overseeing the annual campaign to determine the best regional Wimpy restaurant.
The Business Development Manager oversees and supports every stage of new site development, working closely with prospective and existing Franchisees to source ideal locations. They provide hands-on support with landlord negotiations, shop design and floor-plans, and collaboration with shopfitters to ensure brand guidelines are always adhered to.

All Franchisees have the opportunity to vote on who they wish to represent their area at the Wimpy National Franchise Forum, an organisation that engages with Wimpy (as the Franchisor) for the mutual benefit of both parties. The individuals chosen to represent their area will be expected to canvas opinion from colleagues, fairly represent the views of their peers and provide timely feedback. Designed to improve the decision-making process and communication between Wimpy and its Franchisees, Forum meetings are an opportunity to discuss all business issues.
