Franchising For All

Home Instead

15/09/2023

Home Instead is one of the leading home care franchises in the UK. With over 255 caring and devoted franchisees, their network delivers quality, companionship-led care to older people in nearly every county.

As a management franchise, Home Instead’s opportunity is perfect for anyone with experience in leading a team, and have many franchisees who come from corporate backgrounds.

Although those from a corporate background bring many transferable skills they can readily apply to a Home Instead business, the company is aware there are many aspects of running a business which franchisees are unfamiliar with.

This is why they provide award-winning support from an 80-strong national office team. This support is available to all franchisees, whether buying a new territory or a resale, throughout the whole franchise journey – from day one, until you decide to sell on your business.

As a well-established and ethical franchise, Home Instead really does care about the success of each and every franchisee – as individual office success and brand awareness go hand in hand.

Embracing diversity to achieve franchise success

By Fatta Thapa, owner of Home Instead Greenwich & Bexley, and Home Instead Lewisham and Southwark

My wife Sonia and I have had a busy, but enjoyable, eight years. We first bought Home Instead Greenwich & Bexley in 2015, before buying the Lewisham & Southwark office last year. It has been a privilege for families to welcome us in and support their loved ones at home. But we’re always keen to do more, and that includes getting involved with our local community. As we’re based in such a diverse area, embracing and supporting people from all walks of life comes naturally to us.

Skills & Care Greenwich is a charity that Sonia and I founded. It supports the health and wellbeing of all people in Greenwich. We see it as our duty to help make health and social care equal and fair. We’re proud to have helped over 2000 people and win awards such as a Social Care Award.

When I look at what we have achieved through Skills & Care Greenwich, one thing that stands out is our work helping the Nepalese/Gurkha community. They have a strong presence in Greenwich so we can easily see the loneliness and low standards of living that many of them suffer from. We have helped them get access to health and care services to give them the opportunities they should be entitled to.

Our ‘Together We Grow’ project is one brainchild of Skills & Care Greenwich which we’re particularly proud of. It provides a community allotment for ex-armed forces citizens, where they can work together on maintaining the allotment and meet likeminded people. Just as we set out to achieve, the Gurkha Widows and Veterans group have used the space to strengthen their community and integrate with other people in the area.

It’s the compassionate care professionals we employ who make Home Instead such a trusted brand. We’re keen to welcome people from all walks of life whether they have a background in care or not; the key attributes we look for are a kind heart and the desire to make a difference. Some may find it difficult to get a job in care, and that’s what we want to change. There was a time when Sonia came across a young woman who was homeless, had no income, and whose native language isn’t English. We offered her a job, and after some training and support she carried out the role of a care professional brilliantly.

That was when our ‘Girl Power Employee Club’ was born. It aims to improve the health and wellbeing of team members as well as clients, their families and the wider community. We empower a diverse range of people, including war widows, homeless people, and single parents, to transform their lives. We are delighted to see many of them go on to have a long-term career in care.

At Home Instead, we believe that ‘our differences propel us’, and that’s why we don’t just enable diversity, we embrace it to help us innovate further. People are what makes a business, and we owe so much of our success to the range of personalities we have worked with.
