KATHERINE WATMOUGH

I’ve always been passionate about music and I have played the violin since I was a little girl, which led to me becoming first violin with The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and traveling the world playing with some very famous people.  I loved playing and I loved my life but when my children came along, I realised that there was a shift in priorities and I needed to find the career that meant I could continue to nurture my love of music but also be present for my boys.  Luckily, a fellow musician introduced me to Monkey Music and quite honestly, I haven’t looked back.  Whilst I have only been a franchisee for 6 years now, I have run two franchises (I actually recently sold one) and I have loved both the teaching (which is easy for me) but also the challenge of business management.  With the support of Head Office, I have learnt a whole range of new skills and I never doubted my ability or desire to expand.  The range of opportunities to communicate with Head Office and the rest of the network (face to face and zoom meetings, network events like forums and the conference) means that there are constantly opportunities to accumulate inspirational ideas from fellow franchisees, teachers and Head Office team members. There’s never a cap to what we can learn whether at class level or business management level!  Although at times it is very hard work and there are crucial decisions to be made like running any business, the day-to-day work is very rewarding.  A real highlight for me was winning the BFA HSBC UK Franchisee Lifestyle of the Year Award in 2020 but to be honest every day I think “I love this happy job!”
