Children’s drama franchise, Drama Kids, recently launched its first ‘In the Studio with…’ event in partnership with the world-renowned Aardman Animations, held in Chepstow. Designed to spark creativity and provide unique learning opportunities, this exciting new initiative also provides children with something truly extraordinary in their local communities.
At the event, students explored characterisation and storytelling in a Drama Kids workshop – using the brand’s specialist curriculum. They then moved on to creating their own clay models and storyboards before animating short films using Aardman’s animation app. Jim Parkyn – a veteran animator with Aardman known for his work on Chicken Run and Shaun the Sheep – guided the students through the process, making the experience both educational and unforgettable.
“At Drama Kids, we’re passionate about offering experiences that ignite imagination and creativity,” said Becky Goodfield, COO of Drama Kids. “Our ‘In the Studio with…’ events bring industry professionals directly to our students, offering a glimpse into the exciting world of the arts. Whether it’s acting, storytelling or animation, these workshops provide an inspiring and memorable experience for all.”
For franchisees, Drama Kids hopes these workshops will become a key differentiator. By providing children with hands-on access to creative professionals, the brand wants franchisees to be able to establish their locations as hubs of innovation and inspiration in their communities. And the impact is already clear to see, with one parent on the day saying, “My son had a fantastic time. The session was inclusive, engaging and incredibly well organised.”
Building on the success of this workshop, Drama Kids is already planning upcoming sessions. In 2025, students will participate in non-contact stage combat themed workshops. Further Aardman workshops are also scheduled for February and March, promising even more creative fun for students in Scotland and the north of England.
“Providing young people with opportunities to work alongside industry professionals is a unique and special experience for our students,” explained Becky. “These events not only support personal development by nurturing creativity, confidence and communication skills but also position Drama Kids as leaders in delivering exceptional, hands-on educational experiences.
“It’s a wonderful way to combine business success with a meaningful impact on young lives, fostering a lifelong love for the arts and opening doors to future possibilities.”
